Aviation multichannel radar antennas
on dielectric lens |

Considered technical aspect of aviation multichannel radar
multibeam antenna based on dielectric Luneberg lens, capable
of solving a variety of military-technical and economic problems.
One use of such a multibeam radio system, in particular,
is to provide mobile services in remote areas of the planet. The
advantages of this approach to the creation of multichannel radar
compared to the use of antennas based on active phased
array antennas, which include the relative simplicity, low cost
and reliability of the equipment, as well as the virtual absence
of technological limitations on the number of rays pattern. A
significant advantage of radar, an antenna based on dielectric
lenses, in particular, on the basis of aerial Luneberg lens, is the
possibility to survey large solid angles and quick search facilities.
Simplicity and relatively low cost of equipment makes it
possible to create small, inexpensive radar for use in commercial
aircraft, including small planes and helicopters. The estimate
can be predictive of the total weight of the multichannel
radar antenna on dielectric lens in the range of 90 ... 100 kg. In
particular, the evaluation of mass of the Luneberg lens diameter
of 0.6 m gives a value of 15 ... 20 kg.
