Applied Physics and Mathematics Annotation << Back
40 years of work on the top-secret
Soviet-German nuclear object |
N.F. Lazarev
The author describes the real picture of joint work of German
(mostly) and Soviet scientists, engineers, designers, skilled
craftsmen on the different tasks for the Atomic project of the
USSR. The secrets of this life and work in the laboratories of former
hotels «Sinop» and «Agudzera» near Sukhumi are only now
beginning to open, thanks to the notes of the very few surviving
members of these works. A prominent Soviet engineer NF
Lazarev describes his meetings, conversations, setting experiments
under the guidance of the eminent German engineers,
physicists: Manfred von Ardenne (the head of the Laboratory in
Sinop), Maks Steenbeck and Gernot Tsippe, who, in 1945, voluntarily
offered their assistance and equipment to the Soviet government.
In this institite was designed an original high-rotational
centrifuge for separation isotopes uranium-238 and 235. Later
on they created installations to research plasma of hydrogen,
its isotopes and other element (together with Soviet engineers
Kvarzhava, Demirkhanov, Gutkin et al.) They sought to create
sustainable plasma formation especially with negative ions. The
last cycle of works was, as we know now, the prologue on the
long path of sustained nuclear fusion.
