USE OF ON-BOARD SAR FOR NAVIGATIONAL TASKS |

The solution of the problems of navigation and control of the trajectory movement of aircraft is considered, which consists in the formation of a radar image (RI) of the underlying earth’s surface with the use of radar with synthesizing aperture (SAR) located on an aircraft and comparing it with a known RI located in the on-board computer memory. This approach can be used along with methods such as determining the coordinates of an aircraft using satellite navigation systems, stars orientation, determination of position relative to the ground objects, identifi cation of the relief of the part of the underlying surface. Along with the use of certain radiocontrast relatively small objects in the considered areas of the earth’s surface, when forming RI, it is possible to allocate extended radiocontrast objects, such as water bodies. The high resolution of the SAR allows us to accurately orient the aircraft relative to these objects. Low requirements to the size of the aperture of the antenna contribute to the search for constructive solutions for placing it on an aircraft.
