Lebedev’s Physical Institute is the largest institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Before World War II was part of the Steklov’s mathematical institute, and then stood out in a separate institute and its director became S.I. Vavilov Institute moved to Moscow and immediately S.I. Vavilov began to build a separate large building at that time outside the city. At present, FIAN is located in this building within the city limits, on Leninsky Prospekt, 53.
