DYNAMICS OF ELEMENTARY PROCESSES UNDER THE LOW TEMPERATURE PLASMA CONDITIONS
Azriel V.M., Akimov V.M., Ermolova E.V., Kabanov D.B., Kolesnikova L.I., Rusin L.Yu., Sevryuk M.B.

In this paper, we describe briefl y some results of the experimental and theoretical studies of the statistical and detailed
dynamics of ion formation in atomic and molecular interactions as well as of three-body recombination of atomic ions. Our
exposition is based on the concept of the potential energy surface (PES) that governs the elementary process in question.
To determine the PES structure, one uses results of experiments with crossed molecular beams and the spectroscopic data
which allow one to establish the pairwise interactions in the system under consideration with suffi cient accuracy. The
quasiclassical methods for trajectory calculations on this PES (in the case where the quantum effects are suffi ciently small)
enable one to determine the dynamical behavior of the atomic and molecular system in the given ranges of the kinematic
parameters of collisions of the particles, i.e., the statistical dynamics of the process. The methods of trajectory simulation
and visualization allow one to trace the collision mechanism for kinematic parameter values given precisely, i.e., to fi gure
out the detailed dynamics of the direct and reverse interactions. As illustrations, we present some results of the investigations
of the statistical and detailed dynamics of the formation of atomic ions in collision-induced dissociation (CID) of CsBr
molecules in the reaction CsBr + Xe → Cs+ + Br– + Xe and of the reverse reaction of direct ion recombination. At the
beginning of the paper, some general historical remarks on studies of the dynamics of elementary processes are given.
Keywords: low temperature plasma, dynamics of elementary processes, potential energy surface, dissociation of molecules,
ionic pair, direct three-body recombination.
