DETERMINATION OF THE MAXIMUM ACHIEVABLE ABERRATION
CORRECTION OF OPTICAL SYSTEMS OF VARYING COMPLEXITY |

At the initial stages of designing new optical systems, it is necessary to design the starting optical system based on the
requirements of the technical specifications. In most cases, lens designer only can choose the starting optical system from
previously developed systems or from patent information.
In this case, the most important task is to study the correction capabilities of various types of optical systems and select
the most suitable system options for further design. In this regard, one of the most important practical tasks is the task of
selecting the starting optical systems that are most appropriate for use at the values of aperture ratio and angular field of
view specified in the technical specifications, as well as assessing the limiting values of aperture ratio and angular field of
view for each optical scheme under consideration. These problems have not received sufficient coverage in the literature,
and it is the use of orthogonal aberrations and new approaches to analyzing the aberration properties of optical systems
that make it possible to successfully solve such problems.
