ON THE DISSOLUTION OF NON-POLAR GASES IN WATER
|
P.V. FEDOTOV
It is shown that the anomaly of non-polar gas solutions in water appears due to the fact that there are two mechanisms
of substance dissolution in water. In cold water, clathrate dissolution is realized, such as micellar or vesicular. And in hot
water, ordinary dissolution (hydration). It is shown that the full mechanism of non-polar gas dissolution in water is revealed
in the theory of kosmotropes/chaotropes. Despite the fact that it is generally accepted that the differences can be revealed
in the volumetric effect on water, in reality the differences are shown by the difference in interaction with the nearest water
molecules, compared to the interaction between water molecules. Kosmotropes interact with water more strongly than water
molecules interact with each other. Chaotropes, respectively, are weaker. Therefore, kosmotropes organize aqua complexes,
chaotropes – clathrates.
