ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF ESTIMATING THE COORDINATES OF AIRCRAFT BY TERRAIN |

When solving navigational problems for control of the fl ight of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), one of the possibilities is the use of on-board radar data and a priori information about the earth’s surface along the route. This article analyzes the possibility of using a radio altimeter measuring the fl ight altitude above the earth’s surface and a model of the relief of the earth’s surface placed in the on-board computer memory. Considered the criterias and algorithms used in the estimation of UAV coordinates by comparing the measured and predicted heights. The theoretical positions are illustrated by examples of mathematical modeling of the UAV coordinates estimation process in the case of an unknown position of the UAV on a given trajectory and in the absence of coordinates data of the starting point of the trajectory.
